Leading food and biochemicals company Corbion has taken into operation a multi-ERP interface with their OMP planning solution to support the gradual transition to SAP S/4HANA. “It’s a very solid concept that has proven to work exactly as designed and promised,” says Toine Boekholt, Director ERP Supply Planning at Corbion.

Corbion operates 15 manufacturing plants worldwide and is on a transition journey to replace its legacy ERP systems by SAP S/4HANA release 1709. Planned to run over a two-year period, the transition also affects OMP, which for more than ten years has been Corbion’s core supply chain planning solution covering demand planning, MEIO, network planning and scheduling. “A reliable bi-directional integration of OMP and our ERP system has always been vital for us,” explains Toine Boekholt.

Since the transition is happening in a stepwise manner, the OMP integration needs to keep pace whenever an individual location will switch to SAP S/4HANA. “OMP offers multi-ERP integration, where the planning system is simultaneously connected to both ERP systems, with only one of the two being actively used for each location. That’s very convenient, because a switch allows us to activate the SAP S/4HANA integration for a given location exactly at the time it’s being migrated.”

The project kicked off in October 2018 and the system was successfully taken into operation in September 2019 at Corbion’s Thailand and Singapore locations. “Timing was extremely tight, but we made it thanks to the excellent collaboration between Corbion, OMP and the SAP S/4HANA implementation partner,” confirms Boekholt.

In addition to the ERP interface, the project included upgrading the OMP solution to OMP Cloud (powered by Microsoft Azure) and moving the database from Oracle to SQL Server. The next SAP S/4HANA go-live waves will take place in several European locations in the course of 2020.
