Outokumpu, a global leader in sustainable stainless steel, has chosen OMP’s Unison Planning™ as a vital driver of its digital supply chain transformation. OMP will support Outokumpu’s move towards more integrated end-to-end approach in sales and operations planning.
The transformation is Outokumpu’s response to today’s volatile, uncertain, and ambiguous reality, where companies need to adjust their supply chain planning faster than ever. The tactical planning process has been redesigned to achieve greater customer satisfaction. By implementing OMP’s Unison Planning™ Solution, the organization reaches beyond the traditional approach of quarterly business planning cycles.
“Outokumpu’s enhanced planning will enable better tactical steering and the ability to respond more swiftly to changing customer demands for our two European business lines, Advanced Materials and Stainless Europe”, says Robert Sträßer, Head of SCM Stainless Europe. The new process and software solution provided by OMP will deliver more reliable demand and supply data and improve end-to-end connectivity between all stakeholders and across the entire value chain.
Oliver Baum, VP of Supply Chain Intelligence Stainless Europe, is also excited about the OMP Solution’s performance and results since the go-live in March 2023: “We now have one integrated workflow, which is managed using one tool for tactical planning across the two business lines. The team has done an exceptional job of addressing the complexity of two different market approaches and continuous material flows across business lines.”
Hellevi Kaisanlahti, Head of SCM and Raw Materials IT Solutions adds how the development is a joint effort of Sales, Operations, SCM, and other support functions – and with both business Lines of BA Europe. “The greatest success factor has been how the team has come together as ONE team. Business has been in the driver’s seat and the overall co-operation has been amazing to reach the business benefits that had been promised together.”
Reinaart Desseyn, Head of SCM Advanced Materials at Outokumpu, agrees: “The go-live of tactical planning marks a step change in value-driven detailed steering and execution whilst strengthening our dual business line approach in Europe.”
According to Hans Diehl, Project Manager at OMP, tactical supply chain planning projects present many challenges at multiple levels of an organization: “To successfully reach the ambitious goals of this project, it was key to work together in unison, following a clear vision and deployment approach and leveraging the capabilities of OMP for Metals. Congratulations to everyone for making this a success! We look forward to continuing our journey with Outokumpu.”
Bart Goffin, Associate Director Metals at OMP, agrees: “I am happy and proud we can leverage OMP’s thorough metals expertise and our off-the-shelf industry solution in this important project. We’re looking forward to the next phases of this project, which will be used to expand the solution with additional functionalities.”
